NEW MUSIC IS HERE | the meaning behind the songs

I am so excited to have finally released volume 1 of my newest project, The Acoustic Soul Recordings. These songs are a part of my heart, and we wanted to capture them in the most authentic, honest way.  Though much different from my debut EP Mississippi, I think this release captures a different side of who I am as an artist and where my sound is heading in the future.

So, let’s talk about the songs!

Songwriting has always been key for me as a listener and an artist. Growing up, the songs that really influenced me were the songs that told stories, were lyrically creative, and sounded different from what was playing on the radio. That came through very prominently when I began writing. I found myself fascinated with writing my own stories through my lyrics, and the subject matter of those stories changed and stretched as I grew as a songwriter and a young woman. I’m very proud of the stories I tell in these new songs, and I hope that you as a listener will enjoy them and resonate with the messages they send.

Track 1, “All Those Pretty Roses” is essentially my take on the phrase, “stop and smell the roses.” I began to think about how often we miss the simple pleasures of this life because of the hustle-bustle society we live in, and how sad it can be to look back and realize how much we took for granted. Pick ’em while you can, y’all.

Track 2, “Leave Me Be” is probably one of the most personal songs I’ve written. It is a reflection of how difficult it can be to deal with anxiety, and offers examples of thoughts and feelings I have been struggling with my entire life. I’m hoping that anyone who has endured this same struggle with anxiousness will relate to this song, and that it will hopefully convey the comforting message that they are not alone.

Track 3, “But When I Do” is my reflection on what I believe love should feel like. I realized I honestly don’t write much about love/relationships at all, and that became the inspiration for the message of this song – I don’t take love lightly, so if I’m going to write about love, this is how I’m going to write about it. Just as I have trouble taking love light-heartedly in my real life, I do not write love songs unless it’s the real thing.
