playing my first songwriters round!

I’ve played a lot of shows to empty rooms. I’ve played a lot of shows to people who aren’t listening. So to sit in the center of a room with a group of songwriters, surrounded by an audience that showed up to hear our original songs, is an incredibly rewarding feeling.

Last weekend, I had the privilege of playing my very first songwriters round through Big Pink Music, a nonprofit organization that supports the music scene in my area. They put on a number of events throughout the year, promoting local artists and cultivating a strong community of musicians for connection and collaboration. I had attended their shows in the past, so I was so ecstatic to be billed as one of the songwriters on this particular round. Joe Johnson, Martha Howerin Roebuck, Dan Pellegrino, and I sat in a Bluebird Cafe-style circle in Hampton’s local listening room, the beautiful Victorian Station, and played our songs for a wonderfully attentive and encouraging audience. The vibe in the room was so positive and jubilant; there is nothing quite like a community of music lovers coming together to celebrate original music and the power of song.

I’m so grateful to Big Pink Music for allowing me to be a part of such a wonderful show. I not only had the privilege of performing my songs – I got to sit and listen to three incredibly talented fellow songwriters perform theirs as well. In the short time we had to play together, I learned from their songwriting and performance styles, and had a blast collaborating on our finale group song, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, which you can watch here. Alex Best also captured snippets of my solo performances of two of my songs – “But When I Do” and “Leave Me Be (Pink Pills)”

All in all, it was a fantastic event, and I am so grateful for the opprtunity to play my music for people who listenThis was definitely my favorite gig to date, and I’m so excited to see what the future holds. I have lots of plans for this summer and I cannot wait to share! As always, much love and happy listening.
