playing my first band show!

This past Saturday night at Hilton Tavern was one of the best nights of my life. There’s no better feeling than playing my songs live with a band to a bar full of people – and when the response is positive and the crowd actually listens, well, that’s the best feeling of all.

Thank you to all who came out and supported us! There were lots of familiar faces in the crowd. Michael Glass and Matt Crim were so kind to play with me, and we definitely worked hard in rehearsal to make this night a great one. Also, big shout out to my dad, who plays percussion with me literally everywhere I go!

Also, one quick story to tell y’all – one of my favorite things is when there are little kids in the audience at my gigs. This night, I met two kids named Wyatt and Chelsea (forgive me if I spell their names wrong). Wyatt’s mom told me that he wants to learn how to play guitar, which I totally encouraged. However, what really got me was that their mom also told me that Chelsea saw me playing guitar, and said she “didn’t know girls could play guitar.”

My heart sank a little bit when I heard that. I looked at Chelsea and said, “Girls can do whatever they want to do!” And I meant it with every ounce of my heart. The fact that a little girl, only four years old, didn’t think girls could do what I do makes me want to do it even more. I think that’s the reason why I have such a passion in my heart to pursue this career. I constantly find myself pushing my boundaries and accomplishing things that I was terrified of even just a year ago, and that’s why I keep going. I doubt myself, get stressed out, and struggle to stay motivated, but performing my music despite by anxiety is the most empowering feeling in the whole world. I hope more little girls like Chelsea will see that and want to follow suit with their own dreams.

Anyways, this was just a fantastic night, and I really wanted to share a little bit of it with y’all. I have to shout out Chuck Hudson, who took some amazing photos – I knew this was going to be a show I’d want to remember, so I really wanted to document it. Be sure to scroll down through some of his awesome shots!

played a few solos throughout the night – I get really passionate and tend to close my eyes more than I should, but I’m working on it!
