December ABSQ | Jason Isbell, my dream boots, & feeling empowered

This post is going up a day later than planned, but nevertheless, the last ABSQ for 2017 is here! Since I started ABSQs in August, I’ve really enjoyed sharing my unique take on the classic “monthly favorites.” After music, fashion and beauty are huge passions of mine, so I love being able to share bits and pieces of my style at the end of each month. There’s only so much I can write about music…sometimes I just want to gush about my favorite new shoes (which I do today).

Anyways, I hope y’all enjoy today’s post – gushing and all!

December ABSQ

Album: The Nashville Sound – Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

I wanted to include The Nashville Sound as this month’s album because I don’t think I’ve expressed my love for Jason Isbell enough since I began listening to him in the spring. This record is definitely one of my favorites from this year. “Last Of My Kind”, “Anxiety”, and “If We Were Vampires” are some of my most-listened, but I’ve truly enjoy every track on this album. Through his brilliant songwriting, Jason paints pictures of his life and experiences so clearly, creating music that is both easy to listen to and easy to relate to.

Beauty: Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey

I’ve been eyeing this product for a while, so it was quite exciting to find it in my stocking on Christmas morning! Like the name says, this sleek little tube offers a tad more color than a balm, while not taking on the intensity of a lipstick. As you can see by the swatch, it looks like it would apply quite dark, but it ends up going on as a subtle, sheer cranberry (and it’s very hydrating!) I have a feeling this will become one of my every day essentials!

Style: white snake boots

Y’all. I have been obsessed with these boots for a HOT MINUTE. I originally purchased this same shoe in black last year, and have worn them non-stop since, so when I saw the white snake version on Free People’s website…let me tell you, love at first sight. I had been successfully resisting temptation for months when my sweet grandma offered to buy them for me as my Christmas present! *cries* Needless to say, I am so thankful for this thoughtful gift, and I cannot wait to wear these on stage!

I saw this on Instagram and just had to include it in today’s ABSQ. This is actually an ad for Bumble, an online dating/networking app. How empowering is this quote? I can’t say that this is actually true of my parents, who have always been very uplifting and supportive of my capabilities, but still – ever since I was a kid, I’ve always heard the phrase “I hope they marry well” – and unfortunately, most of the time that comment was being directed toward a woman.

Oh, how the times have changed.

(And still need to do quite a bit more changing.)

For me, 2017 has been a year of exponential growth for my music career, my blog (!), my work ethic, and most importantly, my confidence. I feel like I am where I need to be, dong what I am meant to be doing, and that is why this quote rings so true for me.

Be the CEO. Be the success story. Do the work. Put in the hours. Make the money. Rise above the failures. Celebrate the victories.

I could honestly go on and on about all the feelings this concept ignites within me, but it all boils down to one thing: choosing yourself. In 2018, I challenge y’all to choose yourselves. Choose your dreams. Stop waiting for your life to happen! Become the hardworking CEO, business person, actor, musician, etc. that you desire to be, and one day success could be knocking on your door.

And hey, you may get lucky and marry the gorgeous CEO anyway.

I hope y’all enjoyed today’s post. Much love, and Happy 2018!!!
