Friends, I truly hope all of you had a magical holiday! Christmas will forever be my favorite time of year, so today I decided to prolong some of that holiday cheer here on AbundantlyKate by recapping this year’s season through all of the pictures I’ve taken over the last couple of weeks. Enjoy!
the weeks leading up…
getting festive with my room decor this year
mini version of my tree – now on sale for $10!
a night spent by the tree with my pup
homemade sugar cookies topped with store-bought icing – I’m good, but I’m not that good
seriously though – so proud of my decorating skills!
We always have dinner at my grandparents house after going to the Christmas Eve service at church. This is the time when I force my family to take pictures with me in front of the Christmas tree, because that Christmas Eve Instagram is very important!!
my momma, my bestie…
… plus my dad 🙂
and pup, naturally! (this is a remake from last year’s photo – see here – his expression has not changed)
and my brother and Grandpa!
…and Christmas Day!
Every Christmas, we have cinnamon rolls in the morning and do stockings while we wait for my grandparents to come over. Unfortunately, I ate my cinnamon roll too quickly to take a picture, but y’all get the idea.
second annual selfie stick family photo
scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole, the turkey…and my grandpa, who obviously was not ready to be on camera
Once again, I did not take a photo of my plate because I was in too much of a rush to start eating…but are we surprised? No.
me playing “Harvest Moon” for my grandpa
Before having dessert (which I also did not take a picture of), I played “Harvest Moon”, one of my grandpa’s favorite Neil Young songs, for him as part two of his gift (part one was giving him a “voucher” for me to take him out to breakfast). He is a man with such a passion for music that this turned out to be the perfect present. As soon as I began to play, he recognized the song and started talking about how it brings back memories of trips to the cottage in Canada, where my dad’s side of the family is from. When I finished, he hugged me with tears of joy in his eyes, and that in and of it self is enough to remind me how blessed I am. To be part of a family that treasures music so much is such an incredible thing, and I would not be who I am, pursuing what I’m pursuing, without that. My family has unshakably believed in me and supported me from the beginning, and moments like these illustrate why. Music is such an essential part of our lives, and I am so happy to be able to share that, especially on Christmas Day.
I hope all of you had a Christmas filled with blessing, merriness, and love. This year sure has been one for the books, and I know that even better things are coming in 2018…
Thank you for reading 🙂 Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and much love.
