Album. Beauty. Style. Quote.
Welcome to the new monthly favorites of AbundantlyKate.
I wanted to create a way to do monthly favorites while still maintaining my theme and making all of my content cohesive. That’s why I’ve decided to do a simplified version of the traditional monthly favorites in which I touch on my most-listened-to album for the month to check the music box (and rave about some freakin’ awesome artists), while still allowing myself to talk about other things that I’ve been loving – beauty products and, of course, fashion. Lastly, I want to incorporate a quote at the end of each ABSQ post to serve y’all a little soul food, if you will. So with all of that said, let’s jump right in!
Album: Goodnight Rhonda Lee ~ Nicole Atkins
I know. If you read my last Music Monday, you’re already aware of how much I love this album. I am obsessed. Soulful, eclectic, with hints of jazz and the blues – Nicole Atkins is phenomenal, and I am so glad that I discovered her this month. I can’t even say enough. 10/10, highly recommend – go listen, go experience, go enjoy. Now!
Beauty: Glossier’s Boy Brow
Quick gush about this great little product! I am a fan of full, natural looking, strong eyebrows, and this gel does the trick. My girls who are constantly short on time, this gem is a swipe-and-go saving grace for the perpetually late female (and male, boys need well kept brows too!) I use it alone for a quick fix, as well as a base before I fill in my brows with powder. I don’t want to show y’all a picture of my tube because the label has worn off and it is looking rough, so please enjoy the nice pretty picture above that I stole from Glossier’s website. Go get yourself some Boy Brow! (Also, I use the shade blonde because #ginger)
Style: Southern Trash
Southern Trash is a boutique in Florence, Alabama. My family lives in that area, and so of course, I always take advantage of the local shops while I’m down there. Southern Trash’s slogan says it all – Retro, Reclaimed, Reinvented. They sell vintage clothing (aka, Retro), Reclaimed digs, and stuff that they have essentially “up-cycled” (Reinvented). They’re basically an edgy, upscale thrift shop, that also sells funky jewelry like The Gypsy Fawn. Since I first discovered them last November, I’ve acquired quite a few pieces. They always have so many fun button downs, so I now currently have three, shown below. The white fringe retro cowboy-esque one is my favorite, but I still haven’t had the guts to wear it out – future live show top, eh? I think so. I also picked up this rad maxi skirt from them last time I was there – pictured below; it is now one of my favorite pieces. If you’re from the Shoals and you haven’t gone in, you must go, but you can also order their stuff online! Go check em out.
I came across this quote in a book I’m reading, and it really resonated with me. Being a young, almost twenty female who loves life and experiencing the joys of life, needs to hear this. It reminds me of my goals and what I want my career to look like in five, ten, fifteen years. It motivates me to work harder and keep my dreams on the top of my to-do list. Of course, life is meant to be enjoyed, but that doesn’t mean constantly dropping money on Chick Fil A or watching Netflix until 2am is an acceptable way to “live life to the fullest.” If you’ve heard the quote “Life is short, buy the shoes.” – this is exactly what I’m talking about. It’s about finding a balance between “buying the shoes” and making mature, sound decisions about how you’re handling your time, money, feelings, etc.
It’s a hard reality to come to terms with as you are growing up, but I recognize how significant this mindset will be for me as I navigate my future. Do y’all have any quotes that motivate you the way this one does for me?
Also, please let me know how y’all feel about these ABSQ posts. I think they’ll be fun! It’s just another way for me to talk about my passions and allow y’all to get to know me here on AbundantlyKate. Let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are, and stay tuned for a new ABSQ at the end of each month!
