7 Tips to Beat the Spring Break Blues

Hey y’all!

I hope everyone is well. As I said in my last post, I am on spring break right now, and so I decided to do a spring break inspired post! If you’re not going anywhere this year, you might find yourself with a little extra time to kill. I’ve come up with seven different ways to get yourself moving and beat your spring break blues. I hope y’all enjoy!

7 Tips to Beat the Spring Break Blues

1. Try a DIY!

Personally, I’m always down for a solid DIY project, and I would never say no to a trip to Michael’s! DIYs are so much fun and there are tons of easy projects available all over the web. I am a fan of Pinterest – aka, I have a pretty happenin’ DIY board, just like I have a board for everything else. Absolutely. Everything. Else. Also, y’all can check out my own projects I’ve done on AbundantlyKate in the past, such as my DIY cards and my DIY striped bulletin board! With all the extra time spring break offers, it’s time to get your creative juices flowing, and break out the hot glue!

2. Movies. OUTSIDE.

Y’all, this idea comes straight off of Pinterest. Imagine this: a crisp spring night, lots of pillows and fuzzy blankets, and your Netflix queue up and ready to go?  That sounds pretty good to me. This is super easy to pull off because it’s cheap, and you can do it right in your backyard! Grab your laptop/phone/tablet and some popcorn, and you’re set. Boom – Pinterest goals achieved.

3. Go thrift shopping.

I love thrift shopping. Not gonna lie, Goodwill is my place. The other day, I got a men’s gingham J.Crew button down from Goodwill for $6. SIX DOLLARS. You can’t compete with that. Thrift shops are great places to find unique, quirky styles that can become staples in your wardrobe. From vintage-y jeans to oversized sweaters, button downs to funky dresses, you can literally find anything if you keep your eyes open and are ready to dig through the racks. Plus, it’s CHEAP.

4. If you have a beach, take advantage of it.

Where I live, we have quite an assortment of river beaches that I find myself at year after year. As soon as the warm weather hits, we flock like seagulls to the yellow-sanded sanctuaries because, quite frankly, they are the closest places we have to paradise. It’s no Cancun, don’t get me wrong, but there’s a certain southern authenticity to these beaches that has captured my heart. If you have a beach, take advantage of it! A cute suit, some sunscreen (of course), a towel, and you’re set. With some good music and great friends, you can’t really do much better than sand and sunshine.

My favorite local beach!

5. Clean out your closet.

Okay, I know this doesn’t sound like the most appealing task to spend time on during spring break. I will admit that. However, there is nothing that will clear you mind faster than some good ole’ organization. Rearrange your shoe collection, color code your clothing, purge any pieces that you just don’t wear anymore – anything that you feel like doing to declutter your space FAST. Spring cleaning, am I right?

6. Food. There is always food.

Whether you go out or stay in, food is never a bad idea. Coming from a girl that loves to eat, I think being adventurous is always key. Go on a lunch date, try a new restaurant, or maybe even test out a recipe! Food is one of the greatest joys in life, and it is not to be missed – take it from JLaw.

7. Take a mini road trip!

My final tip for y’all today is to let your adventurous side out. There is something so freeing about a beautiful day and a full tank of gas. Get together with friends and pick a destination! Sometimes the greatest memories happen in the most unexpected of places. You never know what you are going to find. Adventure is out there!
