The Lowdown on Lashes: My Go-To Essentials

Hey y’all!

Today, I am going to be doing my very first beauty post! I am such a lover of cosmetics and skin care, so I am planning on doing a lot of beauty posts in the near future – be on the lookout! Today, I am going to talk about what I believe to be one of the most essential factors to create a great make-up look: EYELASHES. Beauty trends come and go, but big, beautiful lashes have always stuck around. From Maybelline to Urban Decay, Covergirl to Clinique, cosmetic brands high and low have endorsed the large-lashed, doe-eyed look. Celebrities like the iconic 60s fashion model Twiggy and teen idol Kylie Jenner have dawned some serious lashed-out loveliness many times, and the best part is that absolutely ANYONE can pull it off!

Today, I am going to show you guys some of my favorite products to get my eyelashes as long and beautiful as possible! I use all of these products pretty much on a daily basis, as part of my lash care and make-up routine. If you’re interested in seeing what I use, then keep on reading!

The Essentials:

#1: Petroleum Jelly (aka Vaseline)

If you’ve read my January Favorites post, then you know that I have been a victim of one of the most horrific beauty blunders a girl can go through: I chopped off my own eyelashes. Yes, with one all-too-careless pump of my eyelash curler, I managed to chop off the middle section of lashes on my right eye. It was terrible. However, after I did some much needed research, I found out that Vaseline (or any other brand of petroleum jelly, like I have pictured above) is a lash lifesaver! I applied this stuff to my lashes every night after that debacle, and now my eyelashes have grown back completely! I also find that they are longer, thicker, and healthier in general. It’s important to make sure you take care of your eyelashes and condition them with hydrating products to repair any damage from mascara or eyelash curling. I now put this one my lashes every night and sometimes right before I apply mascara while I’m doing my makeup. You can purchase this stuff almost anywhere for very cheap. Care for you lashes, people!

#2: Eyeliner

As part of my eye make-up routine, I always use a dark pencil eyeliner. Eyeliner is essential in making your lashes appear fuller and thicker! The eyeliner I have here is the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in the color Rockstar. This eye pencil goes on so smoothly and stays so well. I apply it in the upper tightline of my eye to make the base of my lashes darker, acting as the perfect foundation for mascara to go after. Applying liner to your tightline also lifts up your eye, so with mascara, it is the perfect combination!

#3: Lash Curler

Because of my little chopping-off-my-lashes incident, I really needed a new eyelash curler. I read about lash curlers and found out that under no circumstances should you be using a cheap one – those are the type that will chop off your lashes! Thankfully, I know now, and have since then purchased a Tweezerman Classic Lash Curler. I absolutely love this product – I feel like my lashes have so much more volume than they did before. I know that lash curlers are a little scary to those who do not know how to use them, but I promise that they are easy and they make a world of difference. Just like eyeliner, curling your lashes lifts up your entire eye, creating a brighter and more open eye make-up look – definitely an essential!

#4: The Mascaras

These mascaras together are my 100%, go-to, without a doubt BEST combination ever! I once heard that you can tell how a mascara will make your lashes look by how the mascara brush looks, and I have found that to be very true with these two products. First, I use the Benefit They’re Real! Lengthening Mascara. This mascara’s brush bristles are very tiny and thin, which is great for separating and lengthening lashes. I use this as my base mascara, applying one even coat on all my lashes to make sure they are fully coated and separated. Then, I use the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara to plump and volumize my lashes to their full potential! The brush is much thicker and bulkier than the first mascara, which is great because it distributes more product onto the lashes for a bigger, more falsies effect.

Well, there you have it – the lowdown on lashes, my go-to essentials. I hope y’all enjoyed! All of these products can be purchase at Ulta (aka heaven on earth), and I highly recommend trying them all. Stay beautiful and have a wonderful week!

Much love,

      1. Yes. My children were born with little to no eyelashes and I applied saliva to them, they now have full, long beautiful lashes 🙂 I also had your same incident but I chopped mine worse and did this to grow them back faster. The saliva contains enzymes that nurture and stimulates the skin and hair, that’s why it helps them grow and look better.
