Today I want to talk about something very important, a day that every girl, single AND taken, should pay attention to: GALentine’s Day!
Galentine’s Day first originated on the show Parks and Recreation. It is supposed to take place on February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day, and it is a day entirely dedicated to love, friendship, and celebration between gals pals! I don’t watch Parks and Rec, so I didn’t hear about the concept of Galentine’s Day until last year when I saw it on Pinterest, but I think it is an absolutely fabulous idea! It seems to me that as soon as February comes around and we are suddenly bombarded by hearts, chocolate, and sappy Hallmark cards everywhere we go, all the single ladies get pretty grumpy and depressed over their lack of a Valentine. Well, not to fear! I have put together five Galentine’s Day dates to try with your girlfriends this February 13th. If you want to know how to spend your Galentine’s Day this year, then just keep reading!
Date #1: Have a spa day
You can NEVER go wrong with a spa day. Do each others’ nails, smoothe on a face mask, and maybe even catch up on the latest episode of The Bachelor (Lauren B. – am I right?). My favorite face masks of ALL TIME are made by Montagne – there are so many different kinds and ingredients that there is a mask for everyone’s skin type. I particularly love the Hot Spring Sauna face mask because it literaly heats up as you apply it to your face! My skin always feels so clean and exfoliated after I use it, so I highly recommend. Never pass up an excuse to pamper yourself!
Date #2: Have a Rom/Com movie marathon
Sappy Hallmark Channel Valentine’s movies? As Cher Horowitz would say, “As if!” Spice up Galentine’s with some of the best romantic comedies out there: Mean Girls, Clueless, 50 First Dates – the list is endless! There is nothing better than some great throwback films with the perfect balance of sweetness and sarcasm to make you laugh (and maybe even cry) the night away. Throw in some popcorn, fuzzy blankets, and a few of your best friends, and you’re set!
Date #3: Host a baking party
This might be my favorite of all. What’s better than friendship and a calorie fest? Each guest can bring their mix of choice, and voila – you have a baking party! Cupcakes, cookies, and maybe even a pie, if someone wants to get fancy. Get creative with decorating and let yourself indulge. This beats Valentine’s Day candy any day.
Date #4: Brunch!
Galentine’s Day is a Saturday this year, and what’s more fun than Saturday brunch? Pick your fave spot, throw on your cutest dress, and go! There’s nothing better than going out with your girlfriends, and Galentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to treat yourself. Don’t be afraid to get yourself that stack of pancakes – you can eat a salad on another day!
Date #5: See the latest chick flick
Y’all, SO MANY great movies are being released in the month of February! The Choice came out on the 5th, and I am dying to see it. What’s not to love about Nicholas Sparks? I cried through all of The Notebook and I have no shame is saying that The Choice will be no different. However, it you’re looking fo something a little more bubbly, How To Be Single is out on February 12th, and it’s starring Rebel Wilson! I’ve been a fan of Rebel since the Pitch Perfect days, and so I’m really excited to see her new film. Grab your gals and get to it – and maybe squeeze in some horizontal running beforehand?
Have a fabulous Galentine’s Day, y’all!
